Tip Thursdays

by | May 12, 2011 | Kate Giovinco Photography | 1 comment

I get a lot of emails asking camera questions.  I have gotten three inquires this week alone about lighting and tips for using one’s camera. I have emailed tips to those individuals. I decided that every Thursday I would blog about photography. What I use, tips, lighting, etc. Sometimes they will be my own write ups on things I have learned, but I don’t plan to recreate the wheel so I will be adding lots of links to articles and helpful tips.

10/10/10 was a day filled with family in the new family beach house.Camera: Nikon D3S

The first tip I am going to offer to take better pictures with your DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex camera) is to take it off of Auto. Start shooting in Manual if Manual scares you which it did me at first at least shoot in Aperture or Shutter Priority.  Once you are comfortable with that switch to manual.

First you need to know the difference in settings. I suggest looking at your manual and learning about your camera.

Google your camera and tips on how to use it.

Learn the basics. I can’t emphasize that enough.

And because I think photographs are so important. I found this simulation site the other day and thought it was a lot of fun. It really helps with figuring out what settings are needed to get the image you want to capture, but first you need to know the basics.

Don’t forget to fan us on FaceBook, I will be adding extra’s on my FaceBook Business Page a few times a week. Please feel free to leave questions and comments on what you would like me to cover on my blog in regards to photography for Tip Thursdays.
