The instagram trend and yes I am totally guilty of it myself. Â However in the back of my mind I always thought it was a fad. I think it is cool, I think it is fun, however it is overused. And with being overused comes the biggest problem I see with it. People are documenting their lives and the lives of their children with a cell phone app that more often than not makes your pictures blurry and over exposed. I try hard to use my camera, but I don’t always carry it with me so I tend to use my cell phone. I have an iPhone 4 and I can get great pictures in great light. In lower light situations it is ok, but it is nothing compared to a traditional digital camera.
The Instagram Trend
If you are going to use instagram may I suggest that you take a picture with your cell phone and then convert it in the instagram app. That way you have a regular photo that you can look back on in 20 years and still love, but convert it and have an instagram copy. I admit instagram is fun but it should not be your main source of documenting your life and the lives of your children. It is a trend like these other overused photography fads. For example color select, fake flooring, the giant lollipop, etc. And even though people are perfectly happy with that style they are a trend. A trend that someday you might look back and scream ‘oh yeah that was so 2011 what was I thinking.’ I feel the same way of my own pictures from when I was little. What were we thinking with the neon colored speckled backgrounds and fake forests. I am not against instagram, I am just over the overuse of it and the fact that people are using it as their main source for documenting life. The more I see it the less I am impressed with it.
